“DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE RACE RESULT FROM THIS WEEKEND, AS A TEAM WE HAD ONE OF OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL WEEKENDS IN TERMS OF MECHANICAL PROGRESSION IN FINDING A FAULT WITH OUR RACEBIRD AS WELL AS IN HOSTING OUR SPONSORS AND PARTNERS AT ONE OF THE BIGGEST RACES OF THE YEAR” LARA JOHNSTON, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, E1 TEAM MIAMI

E1 MONACO RECAP, CELEBS, ACTION AND REVITALISATION

The whole of Team Miami arrived in Monaco invigorated and ready to make waves having made some significant progress with the issues the team had been experiencing with the Team Miami RaceBird. Both Anna and Erik had felt significant improvements to the boat handling once the mechanics and operations team had changed various key components such as the mid section and coupler (found to be broken in Lago Maggiore).

As a result, Shakedown in Monaco went off without a hitch and for the first time since the start of the season, Team Miami was displaying competitive lap times in Mission Control…. our RaceBird power was back. It was a relief for the whole team who had worked tirelessly in conjunction with SeaBird and Comtech to find the faults and change out the associated parts.

CHOPPY CONDITIONS

The Monaco sea state was the roughest experienced so far this year with large rollers coming in and of course, impressive superyacht traffic to contend with. All the teams adapted to the conditions well, after-all it was only two weeks prior in Lago Maggiore that we had experienced mirror calm waters.

QUALIFYING CRASH DRAMA

Friday’s qualifying was certainly a dramatic one to witness for the crowds. For the second time in two E1 races, Team Miami were in a race that had to be red-flagged and abandoned due to a high speed crash between two other RaceBirds. This one in Monaco was the biggest yet and saw Team Rafa’s French pilot Tom Chiappe jump clear from his E1 RaceBird to nearby waiting safety crews as their boat started taking on water due to the sustained damage. Team Owner, Tennis star, Rafael Nadel was watching from the sidelines and said after the incident: “It was scary. Seeing it in real-time, I was worried for Tom. From the sidelines it looked dangerous. The main thing is he’s okay, he’s healthy. Everything else doesn’t matter when you go through something like this.”

Team RAFA's electric raceboat slices through the water in front of a concrete bridge as a marshal raises a red flag in the foreground—capturing the intensity and precision of marine racing.

The crash marked an abrupt end to qualifying and teams were awarded points and positioning based on their time trial times – you can watch it here: VIEW

FINALS DAY

Despite having significant improvements, we were behind other teams on data which meant that our final race of the day was the Race Off. We put a valiant effort in but were ultimately thwarted by matters beyond the team’s control (an issue with charging which left us not completing our final lap (Team Aoki also suffered the same fate).

JAM-PACKED CELEBRITY PRESENCE

It was an impressive line up with teams competing in front of E1 superstar team owners LeBron James, Tom Brady, Marc Anthony, Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal and Marcel Claure, who all turned out in force to back their teams at the E1 Monaco race.

AZIMUT YACHT VIP GUEST EXPERIENCES

On Saturday (Finals Day), we were blessed with the arrival of four stunning Azimut Yachts that Moored directly off the pits and launch zone at the Yacht Club de Monaco as part of the official partnership between Team Miami and Azimut. We welcomed a Azimut Fly 68, and S8, a Seadeck 7 and a Veuve 48 to the E1 event and guests were able to view the racing from the luxury of these vessels with drinks and canapes served. were Guests were also able to use the impressive Veuve 48 tender to navigate the actual racecourse in “Hot Laps” in between the sporting sessions to experience what it is really like on the racetrack weaving between the famous E1 SmartMarks.

BRINGING PARTNERS TOGETHER

Team Miami has some excellent partners supporting the team throughout the year who include Azimut Yachts, Bulova, Campbell Capital Management and Digital Athlete. We were delighted to bring stakeholders, investors and guests together on both Friday and Saturday to enjoy a Team Miami private room. Guests welcomed a visit and introduction from E1’s own CEO, Rodi Basso, as well as a fantastic meet and greet with Team Miami Team Owner and music legend, Marc Anthony. Bombay Sapphire, who are the Official Team Miami Sponsor for the upcoming E1 Miami race also provided a cocktail making session for our guests to enjoy.

CONGRATULATIONS

We must take a moment to congratulate Virat Kohli’s Team Blue Rising who took their first ever victory and their team pilot, John Peeters, was also named PIF Pilot of the Race. He performed one of the most blinding shows of from-behind racing when he had a faulty start and came from the back of the pack all the way to cross the finish line first – it was an excellent display of racing.

The final race resulted in Team Blue Rising reigning supreme after fighting off fierce competition from Team Brady in second and Team Brazil by Claure Group in third respectively.

ON TO LAGOS

We have a break in the calendar now to take some well deserved rest from a busy summer of European races. E1 Lagos, Nigeria will take place on the 4th & 5th October 2025 with more details to follow.
